A Study on Normal Blood Pictures of School Children in Seoul

Abstract
To find normal range and the variation by sex and age of Korean School Children¢¥s hemoglobin, hematocrit value, RBC count, and wintrobe index. Those of 4,004 Seoul city primary, middle and high school children were studied from Jan. 4th, 1975 to Dec. 31st 1975, at Seoul school health center. The results of this study is as follows;
1. The normal range of male student¢¥s hemoglobin was 10.1-16.1gm/100m1 (95.4%) and that of female student was 9.6-15.2gm/100ml (97.3%) .
2. The normal range of hematocrit values were 32.0-48.4% (95.5%) for male student and 31.8-45.4% (94.2%) for female student.
3. The normal values of RBC were 3.22 million-5.50 million (97.3%) for male student and 3.55. million-4.81 million (97.2%) for female student. The RBC count were average 500,000 higher in male students, than female students.
4. No significant difference between male and female student was found in all values of age between 6-13, but the average value of male student hemoglobin,, hematocrit and RBC count from age 14-19 were increased significantly with the advance of age.
5. No significant variation by age were found for average values of Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH), throughout age 6-19. The average MCH value were 24.2-34.2z??g, for male and 24.4-34.0 ??g, for female student.
6. No significant variation by sex were found for average values of Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV). The- average value of MCV, were throughout age 6-19, 88.9-93.3?3, for male student and 89.4-93.4?3, for female student. The MCV value were slightly higher than western study value.
7. No significant variation by sex were found for average values of Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC). The average value of MCHC were 30.1-34.9% for male student and 29.7-34.9% for female student.
